Florian Froehlich Presents: CODODENDRUM, A Magical Exaltation
A curious visitor at Florian Froehlich's studio writes in October 2023:
"Cododendrum - it's when a Renaissance drawing (I would say by Raphael) meets a resolutely contemporary and narrative painting.
From afar, I get the impression of an abstract painting... and as one approaches, stories with multiple facets unfold. Always more.
Florian Froehlich employs an incredible number of techniques on the same canvas: acrylic, watercolor, pencil, charcoal, ink, ballpoint pen, collage of paper, fragments of photos and various objects, and finally, encaustic that immerses Rafael's drawing in a magical atmosphere.
A beneficial exaltation for the eyes, a pictorial orgy! And finally, I find myself a few centimeters from the painting, and my nose is a few centimeters from a tiny black sculpture standing in front of a fragment of a broken mirror. The mirror allows me to see my own eyes... which are curious!
And if you search for Cododendrum on Google, the search engine finds... nothing. Is it possible? Google suggests as a choice... Rhododendron! The painter's fantasy of finding imaginary titles that go so well with his painting. »
