ELEVATION … a huge stained-glass window, 11 meters high, adorns a glass and steel elevator in a 19th-century mansion in Porrentruy (JU).
The original measures only 30 cm. A high-resolution digital scan, enlarging the original approximately 35 times, was required (with the invaluable collaboration of the artist Daniel Gaemperle), followed by digital printing with natural pigments on float glass, executed by the TROESCH company. Florian Froehlich takes on the challenge of combining stained glass with a historic building and masterfully plays with the materials (paper, brushes, collage) inherent in such an enlargement. The elevator user experiences an almost hypnotic effect as the glass panels slowly glide by, one after the other. The gaze is drawn upwards: isn't that the purpose of an elevator, to go up?
